EVENT TIMELINE

fishing window: eligible fish to be caught July 15th from dawn until 7pm

weigh-in deadline: bring your fish to Refuge Cove Marina to be weighed at the fish cleaning station on the dock between 6pm and 7pm

evening celebrations + prizes: we’ll reserve part of the patio at Refuge Dockside Kitchen from 6pm - 9pm for post-derby tales, cold drinks + prize ceremony

(last call for food from the kitchen will be at 8pm)

 DERBY RULES

  1. Eligible fish must be caught between dawn and 6:59pm on July 15th

  2. Participating anglers must be in the weigh scale line with their fish at the time of the weigh in deadline at 7:00PM

  3. Only fish that meet the species and size criteria set out in the tidal water recreational fishing regulations and rules in place at the time of the derby will be accepted at the scales (contestants are responsible to ensure they are fishing in compliance with DFO regulations)

  4. In the event of a “tie” or “draw” (equal weight) occurs at the official scale, the fish weighed in first as per the weighmasters derby time clock will be judged the winner  

  5. Fish are not to be cleaned, gutted or physically damaged prior to being weighed

  6. Eligible fish must be caught by a registered derby participant

  7. Each angler may only enter one fish per species

  8. The DSYC Derby is run under DFO tidal-water recreational standards and regulations in place at the time of the event. Only fish legally caught using recreational tackle and under a valid recreational fishing license can be entered

  9. Any person attempting to weigh in fish caught illegally, not in compliance with derby rules, and/or caught outside the derby times will be disqualified immediately  

  10. Please show good sportsmanship, or you will be disqualified BE COOL, FISH FAIR
